TRIP TO ODENI - 1 year ago

THE JOURNEY: TO

I had to travel recently for my dad’s burial in the village. It is approximately 7 hours from Jos to my village; Odeni Magaji in Nasarawa State if all goes well. We have to get to Nasarawa state and pass 5 villages in Doma LGA to our hometown.

We set off after the Funeral service in the morning in two vehicles; one was a Sharon car carrying the casket and the other was an 18-seater luxurious bus we chartered. All was going well on the trip until we got to Agbashi, the village before mine, that was the end of the manageable road o. The rest was a horror movie.

It was raining, my brother puked on me (minus 5000 steeze, I wasn’t having a good day at all). My cousins kept urging the driver to keep going, that road was motorable. Against the driver’s better judgement, he kept on until we ended up in a ditch. We had to alight and push the bus. The white attire we all wore was muddy to say the least, I jejely comot my shoe to walk the mud barefoot. We kept on going ditch after ditch, pushing and going again.

We were running late, the people in the village kept calling and waiting. By evening the Sharon managed to maneuver its way to the village but the family was nowhere to be seen. They sent motorcycles to go get us. We made to the village in time for my dad’s burial. We got to see him laid to rest in the earth despite the rain. (devil you lie). The bus eventually made it to the village around 8pm with severe engine damage.
