Chapter Five: The Queen's Resolve

With a heavy heart, Sofia made the decision to sacrifice her son. She knew it would haunt her forever, but for the greater good, she steeled herself for the task ahead. The weight of her crown felt crushing, the burden of her responsibility almost too much to bear.

She called for Zephyr, her voice firm and resolute. "Wizard, I have made my decision. I will do what is necessary to save our people."

Zephyr's eyes filled with tears, but he nodded in understanding. "I knew you would make the right choice, Your Majesty. You have always put the needs of your people before your own."

Sofia's gaze fell upon the small portrait of Arin on her desk, his bright blue eyes sparkling with mischief. She felt a pang in her heart, but she pushed it aside. She had made her decision, and she would see it through.

"Zephyr, make the necessary preparations," she said, her voice firm. "I will not falter in this. I will do what is necessary to save our land."

The wizard bowed his head, his eyes filled with sorrow. "As you wish, Your Majesty. I will prepare everything. But know that I will weep for the loss of our prince, and for the pain you will endure."

Sofia's heart felt like it was made of stone, but she knew she could not show weakness now. She had to be strong, for her people, for her son, and for the future of their kingdom.

"See to it, Zephyr," she said, her voice firm. "Let us get this over with, before I change my mind."

The wizard nodded, his eyes filled with tears, and left the room, leaving Sofia alone with her thoughts. She knew what lay ahead, and she steeled herself for the ultimate sacrifice.
