Chapter Eight: The Sacrifice

Under the light of the full moon, Sofia and Zephyr performed the ritual. Arin, innocent and pure, was taken from this world, his life force channeling into the earth.

Sofia felt a scream build in her throat, but she bit it back, her jaw clenched in determination. She had made the ultimate sacrifice, and she would see it through.

Zephyr's eyes met hers, filled with a deep sadness. "Forgive me, Your Majesty," he whispered.

Sofia shook her head, her vision blurring with tears. "There is nothing to forgive, Zephyr. You have done what was necessary."

As the ritual ended, the earth began to tremble, and a warm light spread across the land. The skies cleared, and the stars shone bright, as if in tribute to the prince who had given his life for his people.

Sofia felt a cold wind blow through her soul, and she knew that she would never be the same again. She had lost her son, her beloved Arin, and the pain was almost too much to bear.

But she stood tall, her heart heavy with grief, and her eyes dry and burning. She knew that she had done what was necessary, and that her people would thrive because of it.

As the light faded, Sofia turned to Zephyr, her voice barely above a whisper. "It is done," she said, her eyes filled with tears. "Let us go home."

Zephyr nodded, his face somber, and together they walked away from the ritual site, leaving behind the prince who had given his life for his people.
