The Bottomless Chest Box - 7 months ago

Jacob was driving home from work that evening. It wasn't a heavy storm, just tiny drops tapping lightly on the earth. He was almost at his house when he started to feel dizzy. He closed his eyes for a bit and opened them. The dizziness was gone. He parked in front of his house. As he came out of his car, he saw a big brown chest box in front of his garage door. The chest box had some gold intricate  on its sides and it glimmered as though it was under the moonlight. But the sky was filled with dark clouds and hidden lightning strikes. This made Jacob very curious.

Jacob dragged the heavy chest box into his house and put it in the middle of his living room. Once he dried himself up, he went to the box and started to inspect it. It looked safe. He opened it and saw only darkness. He tried to touch the bottom but there was none. Just endless darkness.

Curious, Jacob took a pen from the table and dropped it inside. When he looked back, he saw that there were now two pens on the table. He was shocked and more curious. He then thought of dropping his wallet into the box. He checked his pocket and pulled out two wallets. He became more curious than before. Suddenly, he heard a creak outside and rushed to check through the window. He saw no one and went back to the chest box. He looked at the endless darkness and thought of the unthinkable. He decided that he would double himself. He climbed into it while holding onto the edges and with a sigh, fell inside. He instantly regretted doing so. It was so pitch black that he couldn't see anything, not even himself. He screamed for help while waving his arms about in hopes of grabbing something to stop him. His mind and body were splitting as he started to feel dizzy while still screaming. And with a hard thud, he was in his living room.

Jacob was thankful and relieved to be in his house. It was still raining. Lightning struck, casting a white glow through the windows. He looked around the room but the chest box was shockingly gone without a trace of anyone dragging it out. He heard a car's engine turning off and looked through the window. His jaws dropped in surprise when he saw that it was himself. The chest box was where he found it. The second Jacob looked curiously at it. Just like he was!

Jacob ran out of the house and hid in one of the bushes close to his front porch. His jaws slacked when he saw the second Jacob dragging the box inside. Jacob went to the window side. The second Jacob was testing the box with a pen. Jacob was so spooked by it that he didn't notice the loose floor board. It made a creaking sound when he stepped on it. He quickly hid to avoid being seen by his other self. Just like before, the second Jacob looked outside and saw no one.

Deathly afraid, Jacob ran to his car, intending to drive away from the nightmare. He started the engine and was about to reverse. Meanwhile, the second Jacob had already jumped into the box, attempting to double himself. As he did, Jacob started to feel dizzy. He closed his eyes and opened them. He stopped the car in front of his house. He came outside and saw a chest box in front of his garage door. The chest glimmered, making Jacob very curious.

Did Jacob truly clone himself or did he time travel? If he did the latter, then does that mean the objects time travelled too? If they did, then why didn't Jacob see himself in the same position he was before jumping in. Did he then clone himself?
