The African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticized President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of former INEC chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as an ambassador, calling it “embarrassingly insensitive.” The ADC warned this could undermine public trust in electoral integrity.
ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi pointed out the timing, just after a controversial election, raises ethical concerns about electoral neutrality. He urged Yakubu to decline the nomination to protect INEC's credibility and called for the Senate to reject it if necessary.
Yakubu's nomination is part of a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees, which includes notable figures. The ADC's stance highlights worries about the influence of political appointments on Nigeria's electoral processes.
