I struggled with identity.
I didn’t know who I was.
I gazed into my future and it was bleak.
The image I saw was blurry and distorted.
I was afraid, distressed and depressed.
Joy and peace were lost from me, in their place were questions and doubt.
I read a book and it said, “Come to me”
So I dressed up and went to the place it called me to.
I entered and I sat, everybody was happy there.
What could their secret be? I wondered.
I felt so out of place.
Then the choir began singing;
“I speak life, you’re gonna live oh my brother, my sister
I speak life, you are the head and not the tail, you will prevail.
I speak life, don’t give up the fight for your life, you shall live and not die”
Donald Lawrence wrote that song.
I went back home with that one song, it spoke to me in a way a thousand sermons didn’t.
And I held on to it.
I saw hope, I saw a future, indeed something good could still come out of me.
That was my encounter right there.💯
I left the place full of joy and I kept coming back for that joy.
The next time I came, I looked up and I saw the theme of the year, “More than a Conqueror”
Roman 8:37
That theme gave me a name.
I became a new man.
MALCOLM, a name I got but I never really knew the meaning.
And right there on that pew, before my eyes, the words began to form.
M - More than
A - A Conqueror
L - Like
C - Christ
O - Outstanding
L - Lives in
M - Me
I wrote it down and my life was never the same after that. I knew who I was now.
He who was in the region of darkness saw a great light. I heard something in that place and I ran with it.
I got a charge, I got a new mantra.
Burdened with Glorious Purpose
and by God it will be accomplished.
I hope you see light too. 💥
