A Festive Homecoming For Long-Nursed Cravings - 3wks ago

One of the highlights I had carefully penciled into my December expectations was finally settling a long-standing craving because, apparently, cravings also deserve holiday leave.

Growing up in a town where local foods were never in short supply, my taste buds were properly trained. Certain dishes didn’t just pass through; they settled in. Then adulthood happened, relocation happened, and Lagos happened. Suddenly, foods that once lived next door now required connections, timing, and sometimes prayer.

So the festive season became more than rest or family reunions, it became a culinary homecoming. I was lucky enough to reconnect with Ewe/Muke Elewe (pigeon beans). The only issue? My enthusiasm arrived in full, but my wallet showed up in protest. No cash, no transfer, just vibes. Still, even a small portion was enough to remind my taste buds that they had not imagined those memories.

In the end, it wasn’t about quantity; it was about reunion. The craving was acknowledged, if not completely satisfied and that, in itself, felt like a win.

Over to you: what’s that one thing you did this festive break that finally answered a long-standing craving?
