Shoprite Dismisses Exit Rumours, Announces Business Reset In Nigeria - 3 months ago

The operators of Shoprite in Nigeria have clarified that the company is not closing but undergoing a major reset to adapt to ongoing economic pressures.

Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (RSNL) said the restructuring will focus on strengthening local supply chains, with more than 80% of products now sourced within the country. The Chief Strategy Officer Bunmi Adeleye described the changes as a rebuilding phase backed by new investors, aimed at making Shoprite more affordable, resilient, and culturally relevant.

Since opening its first outlet in Lagos in 2005, Shoprite has expanded to 25 locations across eight states and Abuja. While recent challenges and stiffer competition have fueled speculation of an exit, the company insists its reset is designed to secure long term growth and better serve Nigerian customers.
