Ohuabunwa Fights Back Against 'Illegitimate' Expulsion From Pdp - 3wks ago

In the ongoing saga within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), factional chairman Mao Ohuabunwa has boldly rejected his expulsion from the party, branding the move as utterly illegitimate and the product of a haphazardly orchestrated “unauthorized” meeting. Ohuabunwa, a former Senator from Abia State and a self-proclaimed “founding father” of the PDP, is not backing down!

His fiery statement comes hot on the heels of a controversial gathering at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, which he insists has no legitimacy. He adamantly declared that only the formally scheduled Board of Trustees meeting and National Executive Committee (NEC) session will go ahead as planned. Aligning himself with the powerful camp of Nyesom Wike, the influential Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ohuabunwa has positioned himself at the eye of the storm in this party turmoil.

Ohuabunwa did not hold back in his scathing critique of the recent National Elective Convention held in Ibadan, dismissing it as a mere sideshow. “It's laughable for anyone to claim I was expelled at a social gathering they dare to call a convention!” he exclaimed, calling for urgent clarity on the event's legitimacy, which he sees as a direct threat to the party’s core.

Recalling his storied involvement in the foundational meeting of the PDP back in 1998, Ohuabunwa reminisced about the glory days with prominent figures like Alex Ekwueme and Solomon Lar. He urged party loyalists to stay calm amid a flurry of court rulings that could reshape the party's future. “As dedicated party members, we must adhere to the law,” he urged, while advocating for reconciliation and unity, though one wonders if the factions can ever truly come together.

In a dramatic turn of events, the PDP's 2025 National Convention witnessed the election of Kabiru Turaki as the new National Chairman, alongside Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary. But not without a scandal! Several high-profile members, including the ever-controversial Wike and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, were expelled for alleged anti-party conduct, showcasing the party's ruthless commitment to quelling dissent.

The motion for these expulsions, reportedly led by former PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George, was met with roaring approval during a voice vote, signaling a fierce bid to rid the party of internal strife. But wait, tensions are boiling, with two factions planning rival meetings at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The showdown is on, with the Wike-backed group set to convene an emergency session at 11:00 a.m., while the new National Working Committee plans their own meeting at 2:00 p.m.

The newly minted National Chairman, Turaki, is undeterred, boldly claiming that nothing will stand in the way of their plans and asserting that the police have guaranteed their security. As this high-stakes drama unfolds, the PDP stands at a critical crossroads, with its very unity and future at stake.
