AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Eye Quarter-Final Spot In Showdown With Mozambique - 1 month ago

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up to face Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, with a spot in the quarter-finals on the line at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday night.

After a flawless group stage where Nigeria won all three games and scored eight goals  head coach Eric Chelle and his players have stressed focus and intensity as they look to extend their impressive run in the tournament. Forward Victor Osimhen has voiced confidence in the team’s ability to make an impact, while midfielder Ademola Lookman has sent a strong message to their underdog opponents ahead of the knockout clash.

Despite being heavy favourites based on past meetings including a 3–0 victory when the sides last met at AFCON in 2010  Nigeria know that knockout football can be unpredictable, and voices in the football community have warned against complacency.

Mozambique, playing in the Round of 16 for the first time in their history, remain determined to make their mark, and Nigeria’s camp insists they will respect their opponents’ strengths as they target their 18th quarter-final appearance in the competition.
