Shettima Leads Nigeria’s Diplomatic Front In Guinea And At WEF Summit In Switzerland - 2wks ago

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja on an important diplomatic mission, first representing President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya in Guinea-Conakry. Shettima’s attendance at the ceremony, set for January 18 in Conakry, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to regional leadership under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and support for Guinea’s return to constitutional governance after years of transition following a military takeover. The visit also seeks to deepen economic and political ties between the two nations, building on rising bilateral trade and cooperation.

Following the inauguration, the Vice President is scheduled to proceed to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, where he will participate in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) from January 19 to 23, 2026. At the summit, Shettima is expected to join global leaders from government, business, and civil society to discuss pressing global issues under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue”. The forum provides a strategic platform for collaborative engagement on frontier technologies, economic reforms, and sustainable development, offering Nigeria an opportunity to showcase its economic agenda and attract foreign investment.

Shettima’s engagements reflect Nigeria’s broader foreign policy goals of advancing regional stability, expanding strategic partnerships, and promoting economic integration both within Africa and on the global stage. By attending high-level events such as presidential inaugurations and the WEF summit, Nigeria aims to reinforce its leadership role within ECOWAS and beyond, while championing initiatives that support growth, innovation, and shared prosperity.
