The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in preparation for the February 21 Area Council elections. The exercise is aimed at ensuring that eligible voters who have completed registration or requested card replacement can collect their PVCs in time to participate in the polls. INEC officials say the process is part of broader efforts to strengthen voter participation and uphold credible local government elections.
According to the commission, PVC collection is taking place at designated Area Council offices and selected registration centres within the six councils of the FCT. Eligible voters are required to present valid identification or their registration slips, while collection is strictly personal to prevent impersonation. INEC has also emphasized that the exercise will follow a structured timetable, with specific days and hours allocated to manage crowds and ensure orderliness.
INEC has urged residents of the FCT to take advantage of the ongoing distribution, noting that PVCs will not be issued on election day. The commission further called on voters to remain peaceful and comply with guidelines throughout the exercise. With the polls drawing closer, INEC reiterated its commitment to a transparent electoral process and encouraged voters to collect their cards early to avoid last-minute challenges.
