They sat on the couch, hands touching but not holding. The air was thick with unspoken words.

"I don't know what we are anymore," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

He looked at her, his eyes searching for answers. "What do you mean?"

They had been together for three years, but the past few months had been a blur of uncertainty. They had never officially broken up, but they hadn't been a couple either.

"I feel like we're just existing in this limbo," she continued. "We're not moving forward, but we're not letting go either."

He nodded, his mind racing. He didn't know what he wanted, or what she wanted. All he knew was that he couldn't imagine his life without her.

As they sat there, the silence between them grew louder. It was a silence that spoke volumes, a silence that said they were both confused, both scared, and both unsure of what came next.
