Day 0046 of 1000 Days.
The Secret Source of My Father's Wealth.
Part Nine.
It was Thursday. Mr Kunle woke up unusually early that morning. I did too, surprisingly to me.
Mr Kunle was praying when I got to his door. I stopped so as not to invade his privacy. I lingered at his door like a monitoring spirit.
I stood by the door to hear his prayers. He was praying that God should give him a virtuous wife. 'Wait. Was God planning something behind my back?' I thought happily.
Not too long, his prayers shifted to Mum and then me. He prayed that God should give us peace and the heart to release him with no emotions.
When he ended his prayers, I gave the door a quiet thud. He opened it and for a moment, we laughed. It was an unspoken communication.
We were laughing because we two woke up quite early. 'How was your night, sir?' I inquired with a smile.
'Quite good, Danjuma. Quite good'.
'Sir, please, how old are you?'
I was met by silence and then a curious glance. 'I am 35 years old', he divulged hesitantly.
'You told me you have never dated any lady. Are ladies that dangerous?'
Mr Kunle chuckled. It was a sad one. 'I pray you will never get hurt till you say bye-bye to love'.
'Amen!' I held my hands together. 'I can picture how ladies always throw themselves at you coupled with this your wealth'.
A chuckle from Mr Kunle again. 'Why are you here, Danjuma? You should be asleep by now'.
I went mute for a while and Mr Kunle urged me to speak on.
'Mr Kunle, mum is 37. Can it work?'
I was met by silence again. I looked deeply into Mr Kunle's eyes and saw a 'Don't go there' look.
