A terrible road accident occurred on Wednesday, November 19, involving an 18-seater bus transporting prospective NYSC corps members from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State. The bus was en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe State when it reportedly lost control and crashed.
According to early reports, 16 people have died, and two others survived but are in critical condition. Witnesses say the bus was “completely crushed” in the collision. Meanwhile, the identities of the victims have not yet been fully confirmed, though the tragedy is being deeply felt by the AFUED community.
No official statement has come yet from the NYSC or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), but the crash has already reignited concerns about the safety of long-distance travel for prospective corps members. Some are calling for improved road safety measures or even a regionalization of NYSC deployment to reduce risky journeys.
