Nigerian Air Force Conducts Targeted Airstrikes Against Bandit Enclaves In Zamfara State - 1 month ago

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently executed a series of targeted airstrikes in Zamfara State, specifically within the Tsafe Local Government Area. These operations were part of ongoing efforts to counter banditry in the North-West region of Nigeria.

According to official statements from Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the airstrikes were based on multi-source intelligence. The intelligence identified Turba Hill and Kachalla Dogo Sule’s Camp as operational centers for bandit groups involved in recent attacks, including ambushes, kidnappings, and the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The initial airstrike targeted Turba Hill, which was identified as a fortified bandit enclave. NAF assets destroyed a zinc-roofed structure used as a command center. Post-strike assessments confirmed the destruction of the facility and the deaths of several individuals identified as bandits.

A subsequent operation targeted Kachalla Dogo Sule’s Camp, which was associated with IED manufacturing and logistics. This location had been linked to attacks along the Dan Sadau–Magami axis. The airstrikes resulted in the destruction of multiple structures, secondary explosions, and fires. The operation reportedly reduced the group’s capacity to produce and deploy IEDs.

Air Commodore Ejodame stated that these actions have degraded the operational capabilities of bandit networks in Zamfara by dismantling infrastructure and disrupting supply chains. The operations were conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a joint military initiative involving multiple branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies.

Local sources indicate that the airstrikes have caused displacement among bandit groups, with some members fleeing or attempting to integrate into civilian populations. Security analysts suggest that the loss of operational bases and personnel may disrupt the affected groups’ activities in the short term.

Community feedback from Tsafe and surrounding areas reflects cautious optimism regarding the potential for reduced violence. However, humanitarian organizations continue to advocate for broader interventions addressing underlying factors such as poverty, unemployment, and the proliferation of small arms.

The Nigerian Air Force has stated its intention to continue intelligence-driven operations until security is restored in Zamfara and the wider North-West region. The recent airstrikes are presented as evidence of the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts and the strategic use of air power in counterinsurgency operations.
