Iyoke Sunday Paschal
It is sad to observe that in many of our communities today, people are drifting away from the church. Out of disappointment or misunderstanding, some claim the church has deceived them and have turned instead to idol worship;the same practices our forefathers abandoned after receiving the light of Christ. They now believe idols can provide wealth or escape from poverty, yet the reality is that such choices often lead to more hardship, confusion, and sorrow.
Some even say, “We left the church but not God.” But how can anyone truly claim to love God while walking in disobedience and engaging in acts He detests? God cannot be found in darkness, deceit, or idol worship. The Scripture reminds us clearly: “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3).
Today, Nsukka Diocese made history as 21 young men were ordained as priests. For over 17 years, they endured training, sacrifice, and prayer;choosing not wealth or comfort but the call to save souls from hellfire and lead people closer to God. These priests are not foolish; they are courageous soldiers of Christ, demonstrating determination, focus, and unwavering faith.
To the youth of Nsukka and beyond: this is the time to tighten your belts. Christianity is not a religion of convenience, it is a mission of love, sacrifice, and eternal hope. Instead of drifting toward false practices, we must rise to proclaim the gospel with conviction. You are the generation God is counting on to carry His light into a world of confusion.
Let us celebrate and pray for our newly ordained priests. May God strengthen them, grant them wisdom, and protect them from the trials of the world. May their ministry bring countless souls into God’s kingdom.
And to every Christian, young and old: hold on to your faith. Do not be swayed by temporary struggles. Poverty or hardship is not enough reason to abandon God. The answer to our challenges is not in idols but in Christ Jesus, who promised, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).
Nsukka, rise and shine for Christ! The harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few. Let us join hands with our priests and missionaries, determined to win souls for Christ and keep the fire of the gospel burning.
May God bless Nsukka Diocese. May God bless our new priests. May God bless every youth who chooses Christ over the world. Amen.
