Sanwo-Olu Signs ₦4.4 Trillion 2026 Lagos Budget Into Law - 2wks ago

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formally signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, officially turning the state’s fiscal plan for the year into law. The ceremony took place on Monday at the Lagos House, Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja, following its recent approval by the Lagos State House of Assembly. The budget, christened the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” authorises total expenditure of ₦4,444,509,776,438 and sets the legal framework for government spending in the 2026 fiscal year.

Top government officials who witnessed the signing included Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, the Head of Service Bode Agoro, state legislators and other key stakeholders. According to state officials, the budget was developed to support inclusive growth, accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen governance, and prioritise people-centred policies that improve living standards across Lagos communities.

In his address when presenting the appropriation bill to lawmakers in late 2025, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the fiscal plan is anchored on a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy and effective governance — principles aligned with the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda. Now that it has the force of law, implementation of the budget’s projects and programmes — spanning health, education, housing, security, transportation and social services — is expected to begin immediately.
