APC Fixes August 22 For State, Federal Legislative Primaries - 2 hours ago

The All Progressives Congress has approved August 22, 2026, for primary elections to select its candidates for four restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as several legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano.

The schedule, issued by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, follows a decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to restore four constituencies that had been suppressed for years, leaving thousands of voters without direct representation in their state legislatures.

In Delta State, the restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II has been restored in Kogi State. The APC timetable also covers primaries for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, Udu State Constituency in Delta and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

According to the party’s timetable, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms will run from August 18 to August 20, with the same date set as the deadline for submission of completed forms and supporting documents. Screening of aspirants, publication of screening results and hearing of screening appeals are all scheduled for August 21, ahead of the primaries on August 22. Election appeals are to be heard on August 24.

The APC fixed the expression of interest fee for House of Assembly aspirants at N1 million and the nomination fee at N5 million, bringing the total to N6 million. For House of Representatives aspirants, the expression of interest fee is N1 million, while the nomination fee is N9 million, totalling N10 million.

The party stated that female aspirants, youths and persons with disabilities will pay the full expression of interest fee but only 50 per cent of the prescribed nomination fee for each position, in line with its policy of encouraging broader participation in the political process. All payments are to be made directly into the party’s designated bank account.

The restoration of the affected constituencies followed court judgments directing INEC to reinstate them, a move seen by electoral stakeholders as a step toward strengthening representation and correcting long-standing distortions in constituency delineation.
