Prominent Nigerian activist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) member Aisha Yesufu has publicly apologised to civil society advocate Yemi Adamolekun following a mix-up involving the party’s newly announced Policy and Manifesto Committee. Adamolekun, the former executive director of Enough Is Enough Nigeria, had taken to social media expressing surprise and frustration after her name appeared on the 50-member panel without her knowledge or consent. The incident sparked a public exchange and raised questions over the ADC’s vetting and notification processes.
The controversy began when the ADC unveiled its Wise Men and Women Policy and Manifesto Committee, aimed at developing a people-centred policy framework ahead of the 2027 general elections. Adamolekun’s name was listed among the committee members, prompting her to publicly reject the appointment. She stressed that she was neither a member of the party nor had she agreed to serve on the committee, describing her inclusion as a hit to the party’s credibility. Other public figures named on the list also expressed surprise at seeing their names included.
Responding to the backlash, Yesufu took to X to apologise for the error on behalf of the ADC, acknowledging that nominees should have been informed and given consent before the list was made public. She also extended her apology to anyone else who may have been listed without prior communication, emphasising the need for due diligence and proper processes in future. ADC officials had earlier defended the committee composition, stating that membership was open to experts beyond party members, but the episode has underlined the importance of clear communication in political engagements.
