Unilorin Inducts 37 New Optometrists at Oath-Taking CeremonyThe Department of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Ilorin, inducted 37 newly qualified optometrists into the profession at its Oath-Taking and Induction on Friday, December 5, held at the SLT Science Lecture Theatre on Friday, 5th of December, 2025.The event opened with a procession of the inductees and academic staff, followed by the arrival of major university officials including the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole; the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Rotimi Olusanya Arise; the Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; and the Head of Department, Professor Mathew Olanrewaju Oriowo.University and professional representatives urged the new optometrists to maintain ethical conduct, discipline, and commitment to continuous learning. Officials of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODOBRN) and the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) also offered goodwill messages.During the ceremony, a department official announced that all 37 candidates who sat for the professional qualifying examination passed, describing it as a milestone for the department. She noted that her 400-level year was the most challenging and shared her plans to begin her internship before proceeding to NYSC. She advised aspiring students to “Pray and not relent, and communicate with their colleagues a lot.”The valedictory speech was delivered by Jubilee Ayanfeoluwa, who used the moment to congratulate her colleagues and celebrate their shared accomplishments. She highlighted the unique strengths each member of the class brought to their journey and paid special tribute to two colleagues who balanced motherhood with their studies.Jubilee thanked their lecturers for their guidance and dedicated her award to her late mother. She also reflected on the collective struggles and hurdles she and her classmates overcame together throughout their training.The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards, appreciation messages, the Unilorin anthem, and a closing prayer.
