Key Players Must Exit For Barça Rebuild - Yesterday

Barcelona’s pursuit of a refreshed, title-winning squad is colliding head-on with financial reality, and several high-profile players are now effectively on the market, multiple sources have told ESPN.

Club insiders say Barça must generate around €100 million in transfer income to fund the reinforcements requested by coach Hansi Flick. The German wants a new striker and a centre-back as priorities, along with another winger and potentially an additional forward if Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres both depart.

That shopping list has forced the Catalan giants to consider sacrificing important members of the current squad. Torres and defender Jules Koundé are among those for whom the club will listen to offers, according to sources familiar with internal discussions.

Torres’ situation is particularly delicate. Despite scoring 20 goals this season, Barcelona are prepared to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer. Unless he agrees a new deal, a sale in the upcoming window is viewed as the most pragmatic solution.

Koundé, meanwhile, has not fully convinced since his arrival. His inconsistent form, combined with strong interest from several Premier League clubs, has made him a prime candidate to be moved on if a substantial bid arrives.

Raphinha’s case is more complicated. The Brazilian winger is considered one of the team’s standout performers, and Flick is understood to be a strong admirer of his work rate and creativity. Yet he will turn 30 in December, and Saudi Pro League sides have previously tested Barça’s resolve with huge offers. While selling him is not part of the initial plan, senior figures are unwilling to rule out an exit if a transformative fee is put on the table and the player is open to leaving.

Beyond the headline names, departures are also expected among the club’s younger and fringe players. Marc Casadó and Ansu Fati, currently on loan at AS Monaco, are both tipped to move on permanently as Barcelona search for every possible revenue stream.

On the incoming side, Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez and Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni are among the primary targets. With finances tight, Barça are also exploring alternative options, including Chelsea’s Brazilian attacker João Pedro, as they attempt to rebuild a squad capable of reclaiming Europe while staying within strict economic limits.
