Are Examinations Necessary? - 24 hours ago

On a Monday morning, about 10:00 a.m., my two course mates and I were heading out through the school gate. On our way, we were discussing the paper we had just written, talking entirely about examinations. We reminisced about how things have changed, how writing exams in our secondary school days felt less tasking, easier, and not such a big deal.
‎Now, things are different in the university. Exams seem tougher, especially how lecturers carefully and deliberately coin questions that sometimes confuse us. As we walked, we even argued about whether examinations are really necessary, why do we have to write exams?

‎A student’s worst nightmare is examinations. the pressure, fear and sleepless nights. My lecturers usually say it is the “day of judgment” and their payback time. Examinations are mostly a requirement needed to secure admission, promotion, jobs, and other opportunities. From our early years in primary school, to secondary school, and now higher institutions, exams have always been part of our journey.
‎While the early years were quite easy and less stressful, it is a completely different ball game in higher institutions. The Nigerian academic system is not an easy struggle, where exams feel like a true test of your life and success,.not just your knowledge. During these periods, pressure, fear, and anxiety become constant companions.

‎Although I may not have enough evidence to prove why examinations should be banned, here are some tips that could help you, things I believe I , should have done differently:

‎ 1. Pray, trust God and Obey examination instructions.

‎ 2. Study to understand, not just to pass, do not cram, at least not everything.

‎3. Write  confidently, do not panic.

‎‎4. Start  with your best question, and read it at least twice before answering.

‎‎5. Make sure you answer the questions with the highest marks well.

‎‎6. Write  boldly, neatly, and constructively.
‎Use words in your course or field of study.

‎7. Be early, at least 10–15 minutes before the exam, it helps you put yourself together and prevents tension.

‎8. Use a good pen (very important)
‎Concentrate.

‎To have distinctions and good grades, examinations alone are not enough. Your entire semester counts, assignments, group work, tests, and practicals all add up to one’s academic success.
‎Examinations may not be the true test of knowledge, but one thing is certain, you should not fail.
