Officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a medical doctor, alleged to be conveying pharmaceutical drugs to kidnappers for their medical use.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin on Friday, the arrested doctor was reportedly ferrying the drugs from Sokoto State to the kidnappers' hideout in parts of Kwara State.

The statement confirmed that the doctor was intercepted in the Jebba community, Moro local government area of Kwara State, following intelligence reports concerning the activities of the criminal gangs and their couriers.

It was also noted that the criminal gangs appeared desperate for medical care due to gunshot wounds reportedly sustained during recent encounters with security forces, who had launched an offensive against the hoodlums.

As a result, security personnel have advised relevant authorities to implement improved security measures in health facilities, particularly those located in densely forested areas, "which the kidnappers may target."
The statement reads: "The Department of State Services has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State. The doctor was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports about the activities of the kidnappers and their couriers."

"The secret service says the criminal gangs appear desperate for medical care following gunshot wounds sustained in encounters with security forces.
"So, we are advising improved security measures in health facilities in thickly forested areas which the kidnappers may target," according to a security official.
