The Kwara State Police Command has announced a large-scale deployment of personnel and operational assets across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, pledging a secure and peaceful environment for residents and visitors.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, the command said it had activated a comprehensive security architecture to forestall any breakdown of law and order during and after the festivities.
The commissioner extended greetings to Muslim faithful in Kwara and beyond on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration, which commemorates the 10th day of Dhuʻl-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. He urged worshippers to reflect the festival’s core values of sacrifice, obedience and devotion in their conduct throughout the period.
According to the statement, strategic deployments have been ordered at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, motor parks, highways, critical national assets and other vulnerable locations. The move, the command said, is aimed at deterring criminal elements and ensuring that large gatherings are adequately protected.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders and other operational units have been directed to “dominate public spaces” through coordinated patrols and targeted operations before, during and after the celebrations.
Personnel from both tactical and conventional units will engage in aggressive visibility policing, intelligence-led surveillance, vehicular patrols, stop-and-search operations, crowd control and other proactive measures designed to prevent crime rather than merely respond to incidents.
The command also issued a stern warning against the erection of tents, canopies or any form of obstruction on public roads and highways, describing such practices as security and traffic hazards that could impede emergency response and endanger lives.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with security agencies, obey traffic regulations and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation or through dedicated emergency lines.
The command expressed appreciation to the people of Kwara for their continued support and cooperation, and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the festive period and beyond.
For emergencies or distress situations, members of the public are advised to contact the Kwara State Police Command via the following numbers: 0703 206 9501 and 0812 527 5046.
