The cultural day happened on a Wednesday, 16th of July 2025. It was a day everyone was anticipating, and my department was asked to present the Gbayi culture. Rehearsals were held throughout the week before the D-Day, and when the day finally arrived, we were happy to present on the tribe given to us because our rehearsals were fun and we were doing well. Even though it was not my language, I was one of the lead dancers. I would say that was one of my best experiences in the university.
We danced,Apart from the dance, we also presented food and gave a speech about the history of the Gbayi culture. The culture involves the Gbayi women carrying fire on their heads and their men painting their bodies black, only covering their genitals and leaving their buttocks outside. We had indigenous Gbayi men in our midst who did the the performance, as the male representatives from our department engaged in other activities like shooting and editing to mark the day memorable .
The entire performance took about 20 minutes as other departments also presented theirs . Although It was my first introduction to the Gbayi culture, I grew soo mch interest in it and would like to research more on.
