The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects following a violent attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Centre in Kano metropolis
According to the command, the disturbance began when suspected Yan Daba street gangs mobilised for a clash in the area. A distress call alerted the police, who immediately deployed patrol teams to the scene. On arrival, officers met a chaotic situation, with rival groups engaged in a fierce confrontation
In the course of the clash, an ambulance was vandalised and there were attempts to extend the violence to other locations. Police operatives moved in to disperse the gangs, but the hoodlums reportedly regrouped and turned on the officers, attacking them with dangerous weapons and stones
The police said the attack was repelled professionally, forcing the suspects to flee towards the Farm Centre mobile phone market. There, they allegedly tried to break into shops and loot goods, triggering panic among traders and customers in one of Kano’s busiest commercial hubs
Reinforcement teams were quickly drafted to the market, where officers dispersed the attackers and arrested six suspects believed to be connected to the violence. The command said calm and normalcy had been restored to the affected areas following the operation
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori condemned the incident and issued a stern warning to criminal gangs and their backers. He declared that the command would not tolerate any form of thuggery, Yan Daba activities, or disturbance of public peace in Kano State
He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards closely and to discourage them from joining violent groups. Anyone found fomenting trouble, he warned, would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law
The commissioner also commended officers from the Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement units for what he described as their gallantry, restraint, and professionalism. Their swift response, he noted, prevented a wider breakdown of law and order and a potential wave of looting in the market
Police investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and to identify any individuals or groups suspected of sponsoring or coordinating the clash
