Yes!!! It is a criminal offence in Nigeria for a non-lawyer to prepare any documents relating to rent, tenancy, lease, mortgage, sale/transfer, gift of land, landed property, building structure, or relating to probate, letters of administration, or any proceedings in Nigerian courts. This does not include wills.
It is punishable with either a fine and imprisonment or both.
⚖️Any document relating to issues mentioned above prepared by a non-lawyer whether the matter is in court or not, whether the parties are happy or not is INVALID, NULL & VOID. Any money or property that has been transferred can be collected back even after the expiration of such a matter.
⚖️ Non-lawyers are exempted from the above where such a person is doing such while performing their duties for the lawyer that employed them such as staff, students, clerks, or stenographers.
