Infantino Condemns AFCON Final Disorder, Calls For Stronger Discipline - 2wks ago

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has criticised the chaotic scenes that marred the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, describing the conduct of some Senegal players as “unacceptable.” Speaking after the incident, Infantino expressed concern over reports of protests and a brief walk-off that disrupted the closing stages of the match, saying such actions undermine the spirit of fair play and the image of African football on the global stage.

According to multiple reports, tensions flared following a series of contentious decisions during the final, triggering angry reactions from players and officials on the Senegalese side. The situation reportedly escalated when several players left the pitch in protest, forcing match officials and tournament organisers to intervene to restore order. While the game was eventually concluded, the scenes sparked widespread debate across Africa and beyond.

Infantino stressed that emotions can run high in major finals but insisted that players must respect officials and competition rules at all times. He urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to thoroughly review the incident and apply appropriate sanctions if necessary, adding that FIFA remains committed to supporting African football while ensuring discipline, respect, and professionalism are upheld at all major tournaments.
