Opportunity Should Not Be a Privilege

Opportunity should not be a privilege reserved for a few people. It should be something every young person has a fair chance to access, regardless of where they come from, their family background, or their financial status.

Many people believe that opportunities are only available to those who already have connections, money, or influence. But this mindset must change if we truly want to build a better Nigeria.

Young people are one of the greatest resources of any nation. They have ideas, talents, energy, creativity, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to national development. Creating opportunities for young Nigerians should therefore be a major priority for good governance. Government and other stakeholders must invest in quality education, skills development, entrepreneurship, employment, technology, agriculture, and other areas where young people can build sustainable futures.

Opportunities should also reach beyond major cities. Young people in rural communities deserve the same chance to develop their talents and pursue their dreams. A young person should not have to leave their community simply because there are no opportunities available there.

Good governance is not only about building roads, making policies, or providing infrastructure. It is also about creating an environment where citizens can use their abilities to improve their lives and contribute to society.

When young people are given opportunities, the entire country benefits. They become employers instead of only job seekers. They create solutions, support their communities, and contribute to economic growth. But when opportunities are limited, frustration, unemployment, poverty, and wasted potential can become widespread.

Nigeria must therefore move from making promises about youth empowerment to creating practical and accessible opportunities. Programs should be transparent, inclusive, and designed to reach those who genuinely need them.

Every young person deserves a chance—not because of who they know, but because they have potential.

If we want a strong and prosperous Nigeria in the future, we must begin by making opportunity accessible today. Opportunity should not be a privilege. It should be a pathway available to every young Nigerian who is willing to learn, work, and contribute to the development of the nation.
