Sasa will always remember the Corper that came visiting. Sadly, he had been reassigned to a different village but she’d never forget the story he had told her; The story of Ben Carson.
The story had given her something she’d been looking for a long time; Hope
All her life people had said about her dreams of being a doctor;
“You’re unserious, you’ll never be a doctor”
“you’re a dullard!”
“You don’t have a brain!”
And she believed them, because if she did have a brain, she wouldn’t be doing so poor academically would she?”
She could identify with Ben, he wasn’t a bright student, he was laughed at.
And she said to herself, “If Ben Carson could, I can”
She decided to do what Ben did; Read Books
But when she remembered that there was no community library nor a library in her school, the small hope she had flickered off and died.
“If only,” she murmured, “If only my school had a library”
There’re are many young people in Abinsi who like Sasa, want to read but can’t access books.
