Nigeria, the giant of Africa, was meant to be a democracy - a regime of the people, by the people, and for the people. But the reality is far from it. Instead, we live in a country where only the strongest survive, and the majority are left to struggle.
We have become a nation of unassertive citizens, afraid to demand our rights. Our spiritual leaders manipulate their followers for personal gain, while our political leaders are self-absorbed and only care about themselves.
Despite being blessed with an abundance of natural resources, hardship and poverty continue to plague our country. Job opportunities are scarce, and only the privileged few reap the benefits of democracy.
When I think of our nation's heroes who fought for our freedom and better future, I wonder if our current leaders are truly Nigerian. Have they abandoned the principles of democracy and the welfare of the people?
As I look at our rulers, I am reminded of the existence of heaven and hell. It's a stark contrast between the haves and have-nots, and a harsh reality check for our nation.
Let's work together to reclaim our democracy and build a better future for all Nigerians.
