In the quiet heart of Umunko in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, there stands a palm tree (Nkụ) unlike any other. Its trunk rises strong, but instead of one crown, it bears three heads.
The elders say it is no accident. According to stories heard, the people of Amaokpuhu Umunko were known for their love and kindness. Strangers who wandered into Amaohuu were never turned away; food was shared, water was given, and the weak were carried as though they belonged. Out of that spirit of unity, the land itself gave a sign. From their soil sprouted a palm tree; not ordinary, but one that carried three blessings on one root:
One head for Love
One head for Kindness
One head for Unity
Since then, the tree has stood as a living witness to the heart of Our people. It whispers to every generation that:
“Mmiri ọnụ ọchị anaghị ada ngwa ngwa.”
(The water of laughter and kindness never dries quickly.)
And so, the tree is not a mystery of fear, but a proud emblem of Umunko’s history. A reminder that when a people live in love, their roots remain unshaken.
