Former Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT, Danladi Yakubu Umar, don tell Abuja High Court say e no guilty for four count wey Federal Government carry come against am about corruption.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC carry am go court before Justice Peter Kekemeke for Federal Capital Territory High Court. Dem accuse am say as e be CCT Chairman, e use im position take give himself and im family better advantage wey no clean.
For the charge paper, government talk say as Umar dey serve as CCT Chairman and head of the tribunal Tenders Board, e direct some contractors wey dey do work for tribunal make dem pay money enter account wey belong to im wife and im pikin dem.
For one of the count, government talk say Umar make Kurchmives International Limited, one subcontractor wey dey do internal and external painting for CCT headquarters, pay N5.5 million enter account of im wife, Zulaihatu Danladi Umar.
Another count talk say e still make Portal Realities Limited, wey dem describe as sister company to JTF Global Links Limited, pay N6 million give im wife. JTF Global Links Limited na the company wey get contract to digitalise tribunal management records.
For two other count, prosecution talk say Portal Realities Limited pay N2,043,916.88 each to Baze University as school fees for Umar daughter, Faiza, and im son, Yakuba. Dem talk say na Umar instruct am while e still dey preside over tribunal and tenders board.
Prosecutors talk say all these transaction na way wey Umar take give himself corrupt and unfair advantage, and say e dey against Section 19 of Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, and na the same law go punish am if court find am guilty.
For inside court, EFCC lawyer, Christopher Mshelia, tell judge make dem remand Umar for Kuje Correctional Centre and make court fix date to start trial.
Lawyer wey dey defend Umar, Sunday Edward, come move application for bail. E tell court say Umar go dey available anytime for trial. But prosecution no gree make court hear the bail application sharp sharp, dem talk say na just now dem receive am and dem need time to reply.
Justice Kekemeke come adjourn the matter go another day to hear the bail application. E order make dem remand Umar for Kuje Correctional Centre until court decide whether e go get bail or not.
