The race for football’s most prestigious individual prize has officially begun as France Football unveiled the nominees for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. The announcement, made on August 7, has already sparked fierce debates across the football world, with fans rallying behind their favorite stars. From seasoned legends to rising prodigies, the list is stacked with names who have dazzled on the pitch this season.
In the men’s category, all eyes are on Ousmane Dembélé, who played a pivotal role in Paris Saint-Germain’s dominant run. He is joined by teammates Gianluigi Donnarumma and Désiré Doué, further cementing PSG’s place among Europe’s elite. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also headline the nominees. While Yamal stunned the world with his brilliance at just 18, Raphinha was a standout force throughout the season, delivering crucial goals and assists in both La Liga and the Champions League. Other notable names include Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool, Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior, and Kylian Mbappé from Real Madrid, as well as Erling Haaland from Manchester City.
The women’s list is no less impressive. Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, and Patri Guijarro lead a strong showing from Barcelona, while Chelsea’s Lucy Bronze and Arsenal’s Alessia Russo also make the cut. These players have not only lit up domestic competitions but have also been central figures in their national teams’ campaigns.
Beyond the main awards, nominees were also revealed for the Kopa Trophy (best young player), Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper), Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer), Johan Cruyff Trophy (best coach), and the Socrates Award for social contribution. Club of the Year awards will also be handed out for both the men’s and women’s divisions.
The grand ceremony is set to take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the iconic Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. As the countdown begins, the football world watches with anticipation. Will experience triumph once more, or is it time for a new era of champions? All will be revealed under the Parisian lights this September.
