The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 2,350 personnel across the state to guarantee a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The deployment, approved by the State Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, is part of a broader security strategy aimed at protecting critical national assets, deterring crime and reassuring residents as Muslim faithful mark the end of Ramadan.
According to the command, operatives have been posted to all 16 local government areas of Kwara, with a strong presence expected at prayer grounds, major highways, markets, recreational centres and other public spaces likely to attract large crowds during the festivities.
Personnel are drawn from several specialised units, including the Armed Squad, Operational Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive Unit. This mix, the command said, is designed to provide layered security and rapid response capability in the event of any incident.
The operation is described as intelligence-driven, anchored on detailed threat assessments and mapping of flashpoints, high-risk corridors and other vulnerable locations. Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to sustain aggressive patrols, intensify surveillance and adopt proactive response measures within their jurisdictions.
The NSCDC in Kwara also emphasised its commitment to inter-agency cooperation, noting that it will work closely with other security agencies, local vigilante groups and community leaders to ensure seamless coordination and information sharing throughout the festive period.
While congratulating Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, the command urged residents to remain vigilant, obey security advisories and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
The corps warned that it would not tolerate any attempt to breach public peace or exploit the celebrations to perpetrate crime, stressing that anyone found undermining security would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
