FRSC Mandate Road Signs For Construction Companies - 2wks ago

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken a decisive step in the battle against construction zone chaos by issuing a nationwide order that requires all construction companies to install adequate road signs at every work site. This bold initiative is not just a mere suggestion; it’s a desperate attempt to tackle the ongoing road safety crisis plaguing the nation!

According to the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, this directive is part of President Bola Tinubu's grand vision to overhaul the nation’s roads amidst ongoing construction and rehabilitation efforts. But let’s be real: the motoring public has been left in the dark for too long, and this move seems like an overdue response to years of negligence.

FRSC Spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide has made it clear that this order is non-negotiable. "This directive is to ensure the safety of the motoring public around construction sites,” he exclaimed. Companies are now under pressure to not only install but also maintain and continuously update proper signage, something that should have been a standard practice from the get-go!

Mohammed is not holding back. He has ordered all FRSC Commanding Officers to enforce this directive with “strict and effective” measures, calling out construction firms for their shocking lack of responsibility. His strong words highlight a serious issue: negligence in providing essential warning signs that put lives at risk. “This is serious business,” he emphasizes, making it crystal clear that failure to comply will result in severe consequences.

Historically, the FRSC has been vocal about the glaring absence of uniform signage at construction sites across Nigeria. The agency has repeatedly raised alarms, stating that missing or defective signs could turn seemingly normal zones into lethal traps for unsuspecting motorists. Shockingly, issues like poor lighting, illegal openings, and deep potholes have been allowed to persist, endangering lives.

In previous attempts to tackle this problem, former Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi even launched a signage production facility to ensure that construction firms toe the line. Yet, despite these initiatives, many companies continue to disregard safety protocols, leading to countless accidents, especially at confusing diversion points. It’s clear: the ongoing commitment to enforce this new directive is a last-ditch effort to salvage road safety in Nigeria.
