I'm sure you've heard people say "I will show you my TRUE colour" in arguments or fights before. And often times this "True colour" they're referring to is just one bad character they possess and have come to accept as their true nature.
I have not seen where people use the term "True colour" in good light though.
I'm making this post to agree with you that of a truth, the true colour of man is that of wickedness and everything bad you can think of. Yes, our true colour is that stinking behaviour that we exhibit most times effortlessly no matter how hard we fight it.
Even the Bible confirms this in Jeremiah 17:9 "...the heart of man is evil and desperately wicked, who can know it?"... So, yes, your gutter behaviour is justifiable. We understand.
Now that we all agree that we all have bad character, come closer let me tell you something...
There is a huge and very wide difference between your TRUE colour and your REAL colour.
Calm down let me explain.
Your true colour is your true nature, i.e you in your raw unrefined state (yes that gutter behaviour we just discussed above). But your REAL colour is your Real nature, the one Jesus died for you to have. It is the hope your true colour has to become better and be more like.
Jesus came to reveal to us the model and template of what and how our real colour (good man) should look like. In fact, He came to give us the life (REAL colour). So it's an error to remain true at the expense of being real.
Before accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal saviour, our true nature was in control and dictated our moves. So if you still show people your true colour it either means you've not grown in Christ or you're still growing.
When you accept Jesus into your life, it is expected that your gaze should be only on Him and that as you continue beholding Him your life is transformed and your true nature is continually weakened while your real nature takes over (2 cor 3:18). This is a gradual process, not instantaneous, till you completely be like Jesus Christ.
Then it gets to a point where showing people your true colour will be something of little or no interest to you.
This is not to say that you will not be tempted to manifest your gutter behaviour (of course the urge and feeling to change it for people from time to time will definitely come, you're not a robot naw), but the life of Christ in you will have the upper hand such that you can't yield to the temptations of your old man again.
It is important to add that manifesting your real nature in Christ is manifesting the character of Love. And this love for both God and your neighbour will most likely prevent you from displaying those bad behaviours we call our true colour.
Your true nature is a weak man but your real nature is that of strength in Jesus Christ. When Jesus said "Let this cup pass me, but nevertheless not my will but your will be done" (Matthew 26:39) it was a battle between the weakness in his flesh and the strength in His Spirit. And hallelujah, His Spirit won.
It is not enough to know our weak points admit and accept our true colour. That nature is waiting to be obsolete. Embrace the Victorious life of Christ for that is who you're really meant to be. It's time to change.
STOP SHOWING PEOPLE YOUR TRUE COLOUR AND START SHOWING THEM YOUR REAL COLOUR. 🙏🏾
