Police Arrest Four Over Murder And Kidnapping In Akwa Ibom Community - 4 days ago

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has arrested four suspects in connection with a violent armed robbery that left one person dead and another abducted in Ikot Itienang Village, Ekom Eman, in Etinan Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John said the incident occurred during a late-night raid on the quiet rural community, when an armed gang allegedly stormed the village, shot one victim dead and whisked another away. The attack threw residents into panic and prompted a manhunt by security operatives.

According to the command, a detailed investigation by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department led to the arrest of two alleged members of the robbery gang, identified as Gospel Effiong, known as Python, and Solomon Okon, known as Plane. Both men are believed to be key figures in the operation that targeted the village.

Further inquiries reportedly uncovered a suspected network of accomplices who helped dispose of items stolen during the attack. Two additional suspects, identified as Musa Kabiru, from Plateau State, and Victor Dickson, were arrested on suspicion of receiving and handling some of the stolen property.

DSP John disclosed that a search of Okon’s residence yielded a cache of incriminating items. Officers recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one cartridge, a large quantity of substances believed to be Indian hemp, a red cap bearing the inscription Supreme Red Skin Confraternity, suspected charms and other exhibits that investigators say may be linked to the crime.

The police described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle criminal gangs operating in parts of Etinan and neighbouring communities. The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face prosecution after the conclusion of investigations.

John reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the police would not relent in pursuing those behind violent crimes in the state. She urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly share credible information that could help track down fleeing accomplices and prevent further attacks.

The command appealed to community leaders, youth groups and vigilante outfits to work closely with law enforcement agencies, noting that cooperation between the public and the police remains crucial to curbing kidnapping, armed robbery and cult related violence in Akwa Ibom.
