The Village Child Deserves a Future Too

A child born in a village has the same dreams and potential as a child born in a city. The difference is not ability—it is opportunity. Sadly, many children in rural communities grow up without access to quality education, healthcare, mentorship, vocational training, and other basic services that could help them build a better future.

Many village schools lack enough teachers, learning materials, and proper classrooms. Some children walk long distances just to attend school, while others drop out because their families cannot afford the cost of education. As a result, many talented children never get the chance to discover or develop their abilities.

Youth in rural communities also face high unemployment and limited opportunities to learn practical skills. Without jobs or support, many become discouraged, migrate to cities without a plan, or engage in activities that put their future at risk.

This situation is not only unfair to rural children; it is a loss for the entire nation. Every child who is denied an opportunity is a potential teacher, doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, or leader whose talent may never be realized.

The solution begins with greater investment in rural communities. Governments should improve schools, healthcare, roads, and electricity. More vocational training centres and youth empowerment programmes should be established. Communities, private organizations, and well-meaning individuals should also support mentorship, scholarships, and skills development for young people.

The future of Nigeria depends on the future of every child, regardless of where they are born. The village child deserves quality education, equal opportunities, and the chance to succeed. When we invest in rural children today, we build a stronger, more prosperous nation tomorrow.
