Chapter 2: The Letter Was Real

I read the note again.

Then again.

My heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears.

"I know what happened the night your brother disappeared."

The handwriting was unfamiliar. There was no name. No date. No clue about who had left it on my desk.

I looked around the classroom.

Everyone was laughing, talking, living their normal lives.

No one looked suspicious.

Or maybe they all did.

I folded the letter carefully and slipped it into my pocket before the teacher walked in.

The entire day, I couldn't focus.

One question kept repeating in my mind.

Who knew the truth?

That evening, I searched my room for the old box I had hidden years ago.

Inside were newspaper cuttings, faded photographs, and the last birthday card my brother had ever given me.

Everyone said he was dead.

The police closed the case.

My parents stopped mentioning his name.

But I never believed them.

As I lifted the lid of the box, something fell onto the floor.

It wasn't one of the photographs.

It was another letter.

And this one had my name on it.
