Wabi-Sabi is the japanese word for finding beauty in imperfections. Is that really possible? Some say perfection is an illusion, that it’s all in our heads. But why does it matter so much?

Here is a story of a girl who dreads looking in the mirror or taking pictures because she might see something she won’t like. Something she can’t change, something that’s part of her.  She notices every little thing and sees every detail.

She sees her short hair, her wide forehead, her scanty lashes and eyebrows, her small nose without a bridge and her thick and crooked lips. These features are her Wabi-Sabi. They’re supposed to make her standout and feel unique but the case is contrary. Why can’t she love them? Even when she gets compliments for these features.

She never feels enough. Never tall or pretty enough. Never smart or rich enough. Always conscious of her physical appearance, how she speaks or acts. She acts indifferent to people’s opinions but they actually cut deeply and sometimes even keep her up at night.

All she wants is to wake up one day and feel pretty. Feel confident. To not compare herself to a beautiful girl she sees or subtly hide her phone in public because she doesn’t want to be perceived as poor. She wants to be fulfilled with the steps she’s taking in life which will eventually lead to her becoming the successful and accomplished woman she aspires.

The woman who struts with confidence in her tailored outfits , dripping with elegant cologne that can be perceived from miles away, embellished with the jewellery she  desires whilst her shoulders and chin remain erect as she feels unstoppable.

But how does she get there? She’s just an average small town girl who only has her dreams and the relationship she strives to have with God.

When will she love herself?

When will she love her imperfections?

When will she embrace her Wabi Sabi?
