Both mother & father were highly educated. In fact they were lectures at Amadu Bello University Zaira at the time but they had no clue whatsoever about sickle cell disease. It was the very first time they were hearing about this life threatening condition which was linked biologically to the blood type of parents. A genetic condition which innocent children inherited from their parents genotype.

Sad and devastating as guilt filled my parents hearts because they felt directly responsible for their daughter's death. They cried in eachother's arms all night placing two requests before God Almighty. Lord we place the little one inside our belly before u, please grant us a child free from sickle cell disease & we will put an end to child bearing. This was their very first prayer request and the second was dear Lord please keep this precious daughter of ours for us that she shall grow old & bury us. For if u keep her for us we will dedicate our entire lives to taking gud care of her.

This prayer was consistently said each day & it became part and passo of their lives. Several months later the baby in the belly was welcomed as the newest additional member of the family & the prayer request intensified as the doctor said the should wait till the baby turned one before he could run the genotype test.
