The Nigeria We Want Begins With Its Young People
Nigeria is a country filled with young people who have dreams, talents, ideas and the determination to build a better future. Yet, for many of them, those dreams are becoming harder to achieve because of unemployment, poverty, poor access to quality education, insecurity and limited opportunities.
The Nigeria we want cannot be built by government alone. It requires the active participation of its young people. Young Nigerians must not only be seen as beneficiaries of development; they must be recognized as partners and leaders in building the nation.
A better Nigeria begins by giving young people the opportunity to learn, work, create and contribute. Education must prepare young people not only to pass examinations but also to solve real problems. Skills training, entrepreneurship support, access to finance and decent employment can help turn youthful energy into productive strength.
Government also has a responsibility to create an environment where young people can thrive. Policies must move beyond promises and become practical programmes that reach the people who need them most, including young people in rural communities and underserved areas.
Young Nigerians, however, also have a role to play. We must take advantage of available opportunities, develop useful skills, support one another and refuse to allow disappointment to destroy our dreams. Our generation must be willing to participate in community development and demand accountability from those entrusted with leadership.
The Nigeria we want is a country where a young person does not have to leave the country to believe in their future; where talent is supported rather than ignored; where hard work can lead to progress; and where every young person, regardless of background, has a fair chance to succeed.
If Nigeria invests in its young people today, the benefits will not only be seen tomorrow. They will begin to shape the nation now.
The future of Nigeria is not somewhere far ahead. It is being created by the choices we make today.
The Nigeria we want begins with its young people—and giving them a chance to thrive is one of the greatest investments we can make in our nation.
