Driver Injured As Two Vehicles Collide On Lagos Bridge - 1wk ago

A driver was hospitalised after a serious collision between a truck and a white car on Eko Bridge in Lagos, leaving one vehicle badly damaged and causing heavy traffic congestion along the busy corridor.

The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning on the section of the bridge heading inward toward the NEPA area. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA the impact of the collision caused the car to flip over on the bridge.

LASTMA confirmed that the injured driver was quickly evacuated from the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Officials did not immediately disclose the extent of the injuries or provide further details on the driver’s condition.

Traffic officers said the accident prompted the deployment of tow trucks to clear the wreckage. Personnel from LASTMA worked alongside policemen from the Ebute Ero Divisional Police Station to manage the scene and control the flow of vehicles.

To keep traffic moving while rescue and recovery operations were underway authorities restricted movement to a single lane on the bridge. This led to slow traffic and a significant backlog stretching as far as the Offin Canal area as early commuters struggled to navigate the bottleneck.

In an update issued after the initial response LASTMA announced that the two vehicles involved in the crash had been removed from the bridge. The agency said normal traffic flow was gradually being restored along the route though residual delays were expected as the congestion eased.

Eko Bridge is one of Lagos’s most critical transport links connecting the Island and Mainland across the Lagos Lagoon. It carries thousands of vehicles daily and is a frequent flashpoint for traffic disruptions whenever crashes or breakdowns occur.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on major Lagos bridges where high traffic volumes speeding and lane indiscipline often combine to create hazardous conditions for motorists.
