Oyo Rep Aderemi Oseni Declares Bid For Oyo South Senate Seat - 2wks ago

Federal lawmaker Aderemi Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally declared his ambition to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Oseni, who also chairs the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, announced his intention at a strategic meeting with the Ibarapa APC Elders’ and Leaders’ Forum at the party secretariat in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area.

The gathering brought together influential stakeholders from the G9 and expanded G64 caucuses, cutting across Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North local government areas. Party leaders used the forum to review Oseni’s performance and assess his suitability for higher office.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, Oseni said his senatorial bid was driven by a desire to consolidate what he described as a record of effective representation and grassroots-focused governance.

He stressed that his aspiration was anchored on continuity rather than promises, portraying his move as a “divine call to serve” and a “sacred responsibility” to deepen development, expand infrastructure and ensure more inclusive governance across Oyo South.

Oseni pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him by party elders and supporters, insisting that his politics remains rooted in progressive ideals and a commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens. He also challenged leaders in the zone to begin early mobilisation with a target of delivering one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential election.

Several APC chieftains at the meeting endorsed Oseni’s ambition, citing his performance in the House and his role in stabilising the party structure in Ibarapa.

Chief Michael Morawo from Ibarapa East praised the lawmaker for what he called tangible democratic dividends and visible party-building efforts. Former Ibarapa Central council chairman, Chief Theophilus Adenrele, said Oseni had justified the trust placed in him since his election to the Green Chamber.

From Ibarapa North, Chief Francis Babalola described Oseni as a humble, accessible leader committed to progressive politics, dismissing speculation that he might defect if future governorship calculations do not favour him.

Chairman of the Ibarapa APC Elders’ and Leaders’ Forum, Chief Timothy Jolaoso, said Oseni enjoys rare cross-party acceptance, arguing that his goodwill, financial capacity and public trust position him as a formidable contender for the Oyo South seat.
