Suicide, so what comes to your mind when you hear the utterance of it? Self-kill, self-slaughter, self-murder, self-slaying and whatever it is you want to call it.

I don't know about you, but there's a spirit behind all suicides of all kinds. Drowning, poisoning, stabbing, hanging or even taking overdose of pills; in my country the commonest of suicide is poisoning. When I here such stories, the first thing that pops up in my mind is; “what situation got this fellow to the extent of taking his/her life?” “has it gone that bad that you have to take your life?” “what even gave you the courage to oblige to the suicidal voice in your head?”.

I'm not appraising myself, but if you're a critical thinker you'll find out that these are just the least of questions you will be asking yourself.

But then what do you think is the root cause of suicide in our society today? Well, if you ask me, I'll tell you most of these cases of suicide in our society today is because mist people fail to have serenity and the knowledge that we can't control everything around us. Until an individual understands that, we'll keep having such cases over and over again as time pass by.

When you lack serenity and the knowledge that you can't control everything around you, it leads to depression. According to psychology, depression is a period of unhappiness or low morale which lasts longer than weeks and may include ideation of self-inflicted injury or suicide.

Depression makes you begin to withdraw yourself from family and friends, even some social gatherings. Then the thoughts of taking your life will seem like the best option.

And if the individual is not carefully and keenly observed, the individual decides to take their life. You can start by just calling on a friend to hear how he/she is doing. That call may be what that person needs at that moment; you never can tell. Check on someone today, before its too late.
