Onome's Diary - 1 year ago

Onome had always looked forward to exploring the beautiful ambience of Bayelsa: having heard of its rich vegetation, waterlogged environs. The fact that his favourite musician Timi Dakolo was a native of the state, had also heightened his curiosity. His earlier ideas of what the state looked like, had come via pictures and movies.
Today his dream would come to reality.

His trip to Bayelsa came as a surprise. His media house had sent him on an official duty to carry a documentary on the rich culture and struggles of the ijaw tribe. The joy welled up inside drowned the surprise as the engine of the  Eighteen sitter bus he boarded roared into action that faithful afternoon. Up above, the sky seemed to be sharing in his elation, dispensing its hot rays into every fibre of his body.

Onome had been told that bayelsa produces the largest quantity of crude oil, and seafood. These facts and others he found to be real as he toured the refineries and markets located at the sea bank. Onome had asked " why should a state that feeds the nation its largest export resources, not have the basic infrastructures?"
He was treated to a  local dish of the ijaw native,it took a lot for him to resist licking off his fingers as he ate.

Sitting calmly and thoughtfully as the bus left the park,Onome wrote down his observations and actions as a journalist. He even thought of starting a blog site: a platform to celebrate the rich culture of the ijaw people and their suffering, even when blessed with natural resources.
