The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025. In its ruling, the court declared the convention invalid, citing irregularities that undermined its legality and decision-making process. The judgment has sparked fresh tension within the opposition party, which has been battling internal leadership disputes for months.
As part of the ruling, the court restrained Turaki and other individuals elected at the convention from presenting themselves as national officers of the PDP. The judge maintained that any actions taken under the authority of the voided convention lack legal backing, effectively rendering all outcomes of the gathering unenforceable. This decision further deepens the leadership crisis within the party at a critical political period.
The court, however, recognised the Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman, alongside Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as the only legitimate National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP. The committee is to remain in charge of the party’s affairs pending the organisation of a fresh and valid National Convention. Party stakeholders are now expected to comply with the ruling as the PDP seeks stability and unity ahead of future political engagements.
