As technology keeps changing, it has become really important to have people who can explain it in ways that everyone can understand.
Science and technology reporting is no longer just about writing for journals or labs. Today, it lives on digital platforms where media personalities review, explain, and interpret technology so people can see how it affects their daily lives.
I am a Communications student at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and I am taking the course Science and Technology Reporting with Dr. Suraj Onifesi. For our assignment, we were asked to follow the work of a journalist or media personality who reports on science or technology and see how they communicate complex ideas to the public.
I chose to focus on Fisayo Fosudo, a Nigerian technology content creator and reviewer. I was drawn to him because he makes technology easy to understand and relatable, especially for Nigerians.
Fisayo studied Economics at Covenant University before fully moving into tech media. This shows that you don’t need a strict science background to explain technology. Skills like research, clear communication, and knowing your audience are just as important.
To study his work, I watched several of his YouTube videos, including smartphone reviews, software breakdowns, and tech explainer videos. I paid attention to how he tells a story around each product, explains its features, and shows how it works in real life.
One thing that stood out is his “under the hood” approach. He doesn’t just list features, he shows how a device actually works and how it can fit into someone’s daily life. This makes his content practical and easy for viewers to understand.
He also shares his content on Instagram and X, where he posts updates on product launches, tech news, and industry trends. What makes his reporting stand out is that he connects global tech developments to local realities. He talks about pricing, availability, and usability in Nigeria, making his content relevant and helpful for his audience.
Fisayo’s style is simple and clear. He breaks down technical terms so that anyone can follow along, whether they are tech-savvy or not. Watching his videos feels more like learning from a friend than reading a complicated review.
Some of the topics he covers include:
• Smartphone reviews
• Fintech and mobile banking apps
• Gadget comparisons
• Tech news and trends
His work has helped many young Nigerians understand technology better and make smarter decisions when buying gadgets. Studying his content showed me that reporting on science and technology is not just about presenting facts, it’s about making them understandable and useful for the audience.
It also showed me how digital media has changed the way we report technology. You don’t need to be in a newsroom; you can educate and inform people online.
Overall, looking at Fisayo Fosudo’s work gave me a better understanding of how science and technology stories can be shared in a way that is simple, interesting, and meaningful. It taught me that good reporting combines research, clear communication, and knowing your audience.
